New Shoots in 2024

Wildwood went dormant for 132 5 days. Two winters of strong rain and Los Angeles sunshine are powerful forces that will awaken many gardeners. Flashback: In 2012, Wildwood Nursery hosted the California Garden & Landscape History Society . At the turn of the 20 th century, John McLaren [of Golden Gate Park fame] designed a landscape for Wildwood Rancho. Key portions of the design remain and an original blueprint showed the full scope. Members oohed and awed at an 80’ Catalina Ironwood, stone pathways and a 100 year old Soap Bark Tree. Virginia Paca is a member. Joseph kept in touch with Virginia and reached out when he relocated to SoCal. Virginia invited him to a Mediterranean Garden Society tour at a Brentwood Garden. What is Wildwood?

500 year old bonsai at Huntington For 45 years, people visited and loved the nursery. Huge century old oaks, twisting pathways lined with maples and treasures around every corner. Wildwood was heaven for curious gardeners. The transition to a purely digital Wildwood in 2021 offers new realms of gardening exploration. Technology allows 'visits' before we set foot in a garden and provides new mediums to communicate concepts. Plants will always be the guideposts for the journey. Wildwood was founded by Ricardo, whose parents opened a nursery in the 1930's. Think of all that has happened in the gardening world in the past 90 years.
